Laying the Foundation for your church staff search
In this first session we will discuss the work that must be done before you begin your search. We’ll start at the beginning, including understanding appropriate reasons for moving on from your current role, assessing your emotional and spiritual health and readiness to transition, and developing your list of non-negotiables as you search out your next church.
Key Takeaways
After you watch the video above, read through these key takeaways that will help guide and reinforce the main points you just viewed…
Your first inclination is to jump right into the job search. But there are some important things to consider before you start blanketing the universe with your resume. The best way to have a great search result is to start with a plan.
You’re not the first one to go through this. What you can expect: your job search will be stressful, but manageable.
If you haven’t already left, leave well. Don’t burn bridges. Ask for an exit interview. Keep your integrity. Maintain relationships.
Of course, you should pray. That goes without saying. But this is the time to grow spiritually and ‘lean in’. Many people leave out the spiritual practice of prayer. Make it a priority during your search.
Now is the time to do this. Is ministry even in your future?
Determine your non-negotiables, realizing that too broad a focus will set you up for a misfit; too narrow a focus will significantly increase the difficulty and length of your search.

Your spouse HAS to be on board. Journey this together. Unless you are on the same page, you will be setting yourself (and your family) up for a potential disaster.
